Damat Gürcü Halil Rifat Pasha

Damat Gürcü Halil Rifat Pasha, was born at Sukhumi in 1795 as the oldest son of Kelesh Ahmed-Bey Shervashidze, The Prince of Abkhazia. As a child, he was adopted by Koca Koca Hüsrev Mehmed Pasha. He married as his first wife Saliha Sultan (daughter of Mahmud II). He was the Ambassador to Russia from 1829-1830, Kapudan Pasha from 1830-1832, 1843-1845, 1847-1848 and 1854-1855 and Governor-General of Anatolia from 1852. He was the paternal grandfather of Prince Sabahaddin, through his son Damat Mahmud Celaleddin Pasha with his second wife Ismet Khanum. He died at Istanbul on 4 March 1856.
