The Defence School of Transport (DST) is situated in Leconfield near Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire, England on the former RAF Leconfield site, now known as Normandy Barracks.
History
RAF Leconfield was closed and the site was handed over to the Army for use as the Army School of Mechanical Transport in 1977.[1] In 1996 the school became the Defence School of Transport when it became responsible for training the RAF, the Royal Navy and the British Army.[2] In 2010 the school was awarded the Freedom of the East Riding by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.[3]
Operations
The school provides 150 different courses on transport matters for nearly 20,000 trainees a year.[4] Training is provided in various forms of transport equipment up to and including the 60 ton Kalmar RT240 rough terrain container handler.[5] The Driver Training Wing provides training leading to licences for all large goods vehicles and the Advanced Training Wing provides training for logistics officers, driving examiners and instructors.[2]
