Cwmavon, Torfaen

Not to be confused with Cwmavon, Neath Port Talbot.

Cwmavon (Welsh spelling: Cwmafon; translation: "river valley") is a small village near the towns of Abersychan and Blaenavon in the county borough of Torfaen, Wales, within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire.

Rural setting

Due to Cwmavon's rural setting it is a popular place for ramblers to explore the local countryside of valleys and mountains, industrial history and valleys heritage. The industrial Heritage is notably seen within the community woodland, where several quarries and lime kilns remain.

Small community

The village population is very low, but there is a public house close to the village. The other of Cwmavon's pubs, The Westlakes, named after the former brewery of the same name that is nearby. The Westlakes pub was closed 6 years ago and now the nearest one is The Rising Sun in Abersychan or The Crown in the Varteg. The new Cwmavon Village Hall was built nearly 6 years ago.
