The eighth season of Criminal Minds premiered on CBS on September 26, 2012. The series was officially renewed for an eighth season on March 14, 2012.[1]

In Canada, the eighth season airs one day earlier on CTV than on CBS in the United States.

Cast

On February 15, 2012, Deadline.com reported that Paget Brewster, who plays Emily Prentiss, would leave the show once season seven was over. All other main cast members have secured deals for this season.[2] On June 13, 2012, CBS announced that Jeanne Tripplehorn would join the cast of the show.[3]

After the team - minus Morgan and Garcia, both of whom were in London visiting Prentiss - wrap up a case in Seattle, the BAU is called to Abilene, Texas to investigate murders that they suspect are the work of a prolific serial killer known as "The Silencer," who escaped from prison due to an ambulance accident. He earned the nickname because he sews his victims' mouths shut. The team also welcomes a former profiler, Alex Blake (Jeanne Tripplehorn), who is a linguistics expert, had left the team eleven years ago and has a work history with Strauss.

Also, Morgan tries to increase Reid's athletic skills by convincing him to join the bureau softball team for an upcoming inter-agency friendly. At the end of the episode, Hotch receives news that a copycat of the Silencer has appeared in Dallas and someone is seen taking pictures of the BAU as they celebrate a victory.
