Craiova metropolitan area is a metropolitan area, founded on 11 February 2009, and formed by Craiova and other 5 communes: Breasta, Pielești, Mischii, Ghercești and Șimnicu de Sus.[2] The population of this area is 285,098.[1]
According to Eurostat, in 2007 Craiova had a Larger Urban Zone of 321,700 residents on an area of 230 km2.[3]
