The College of the Holy Spirit of Tarlac (abbreviated as CHST) is one of the schools directed by the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit in the Philippines.
Founded and named Catholic Academy of Tarlac by ten prominent men of Tarlac in 1939, the school was turned over to the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit in 1940 and was thereby named Holy Ghost Institute and Holy Spirit Academy some years later. The first college courses were offered in 1968 and the school was renamed College of the Holy Spirit of Tarlac.
Until April 1972, all classes were held at F. Tañedo Street in Tarlac Poblacion. In July 1972, because of lack of floor space due to the school's fast growing population, a new building was constructed at the New Tarlac Heights Subdivision in San Sebastian Village for the College and High School Departments. The College Department once more occupied the building at F. Tañedo when the Grade School building at San Sebastian was constructed. Since then, the High School Department in the original building at San Sebastian.
Alma Mater Song
O Alma Mater, kind and dear
We sing your praises far and near
At home, at school, on land and sea
The thought of you is dear to me
(REFRAIN)
Oh CHS, in joy we sing
Our hearts with love to you we bring
Stand, stand for the CHS
For Truth in Love
Stand, stand for the CHS
For Truth in Love
Your loyal children here we stand
With you we link our hearts and hand
Beneath your banner here today
The pledge of loyalty we pay (ref)
Someday when far from you we roam
Our thoughts will surely travel home
And mem'ries sweet will be to me
Those dear old days that used to be (ref)
Trivia
- Because it used to be an exclusive school for girls, up to now, there is still a ratio of 2:1 for all students. In a class of 50, for example, less than 15 students are male.
- This is also due to the fact that there is an all-boys school, Don Bosco Technical Institute, Tarlac, in the same city
- The school had its first Junior-Senior Promenade in more than 20 years last February 14, 2013.
