Coledale Public School was founded in 1988 in Markham, Ontario, Canada. The school was named for the road it was built on. The school is a feeder school for Unionville High School. Coledale Public School is also ranked in the top 40 elementary schools in Canada for extracurricular.

Facilities

Coledale Public School is a wheelchair accessible school. It has an elevator that services on three floors and a ramp connecting the split first floor. This school includes a child-care centre, named as Coledale Jr. Y., operated by the YMCA.[4]

Academics

In the school year of 2013-2014, the Fraser Institute school report ranked Coledale in 100th place compared to 3037 other schools in the province of Ontario. The overall rating was at a 8.8 out of 10.[6]

Extracurricular activities

Coledale Public School houses many different extracurricular clubs and programs.[7] The Coledale athletic program consists of two basketball teams, two volleyball teams(boy and girl teams), a co-ed badminton team, and a soccer team. These teams regularly compete with other schools in York Region. The school was also the first public elementary school to compete in indoor rowing championships, but has stopped as of now. The team competes annually at the Canadian Indoor Rowing Championships, held in Toronto. Their student motto is usually referred to as higher learning.

Annually the school also competes in the Markham Fair, art events and also competing in choir and band competition, the school also has a good art program. Every year, the school will showcase the schools talents in a winter and spring show of music and drama. There is also a math team that competes with many other schools every year. They have gotten second in regional competition in 2011, and 2012.

Many extracurricular music programs are offered at Coledale Public School.

Lunch time and crossing guard

Coledale has adult lunch assistants who supervises students eating lunch and lunch recess. The lunch assistants are required to wear a safety vest so that they can be identify as a staff and easy for students to find them. The lunch assistants usually on duty for an hour(12:45pm to 1:45pm)during Monday to Friday. This job is only through the school and it be apply for part-time or full-time of the applicator's choice. Secondary school diploma is required.

Coledale used to have a two staffs working as a crossing guard. One staff crossing guard stands at the north sidewalk exit on the school driveway to direct traffic and help students cross during morning. Another staff crossing guard stands in the middle median during morning and afternoon to help and make sure students are crossing safely at the other side.
