Sangmissoq
Sangmissoq (or Sammisoq, Danish:Christian IV Ø, English traditional:Christian IV Island) is an island in the Kujalleq municipality in southern Greenland, located northeast of Uummannarsuaq cape. Its area is 803 km²,[1] and the largest length is 60 km. It is divided from mainland Greenland, located north of this island, by the Prince Christian Sound. To the south is Eggers Island. Both Sangmissoq and Eggers are part of the Cape Farewell Archipelago.
There is one settlement, Ikerasassuaq, also called Prince Christian Sound, Prins Christian Sund or Bluie East One. It is a weather station and has no permanent population.
Sangmissoq is mountainous and its highest point is called Christian IV Island High Point, 1546 m above sea level.[2] It is an ultra prominent peak, meaning a journey to any higher mountain involves descending more than 1500 m down before going up again, in this case down to sea level.
