Geography

Chirumarri is located at 17°09′54″N 80°01′38″E / 17.16487°N 80.02712°E / 17.16487; 80.02712.[1] along Mudigonda- Vallabhi road, 6 km from Mudigonda and 14 km from Khammam.

Demographics

According to Indian census 2011, village consists of 612 households with a population of 2,498 and sex ratio of 933 females/1000 males [2]

Educational Institutions

Apart from State-run Mandal Parishad Primary School(up to 5th class)and Zilla Parishad High School (from 6th - 10th class), number of private schools are located in nearby villages/towns viz. Ravindra Bharati School, Ammapet; St.Ann's High School, Mudigonda etc. For Intermediate and higher education, students travel to either Mudigonda or Khammam.

Agriculture

The main occupation of people is Agriculture. Major crops are Paddy, Cotton and Mirchi. Of late, people are also growing other commercial crops like Sugarcane, Subabul and fruit plantations like Mango and Coconut. Sunflower was also grown in the last decade but owing to low profit margins, its no more cultivated. Major chunk of water for agriculture is drawn from Nagarjuna Sagar Dam's left canal (a.k.a. Lal Bahadur Sastri Canal)/N.S Canal which flows through the village. Other sources include irrigation wells and Chirumarri Cheruvu which itself draws water from N.S Canal.

Transportation

Being located along one of the major routes in Mudigonda Mandal, Chirumarri is well connected by roadways. From Khammam, APSRTC buses towards Pammi/Vallabhi/Pedamandava run through the village. Buses are available at a frequency of at least 1 per every hour from 5.00AM to 9:30PM

Temples

Ramalayam and Shivalayam are two major temples in the village. Construction of Mutyalamma temple is in progress now. Other smaller temples include Katta Maisamma temple and Chintalamma temple. Villages also houses two churches. Rama Navami & Vinayaka Chavithi are celebrated on a grand scale and apparently the whole village takes part in the celebrations including people of other faiths. Other major festivals are Dussehra, Sankrati, Ramzan and Christmas.

Political Parties

Chirummari falls under Madhira assembly constituency and Khammam Parliamentary constituency. Village has been politically active and sensitive. Three out of eight people who lost their lives in infamous Mudigonda Police firing are from the village. Telugu Desam Party, CPI (M) and Indian National Congress are the major political parties. CPI(ML)-New Democracy lost its hold in the village. INC which enjoyed majority before establishment of TDP in 1982 is gathering strength in recent times.
