Chadwick International is a K-12,[1] coeducational, nonsectarian, non-profit, independent, day school located in the Songdo International City.[2] The school allows Korean students to attend together with expatriate and dual citizenship holders. However, the vast majority of the students are Koreans who speak English as a second language, while many if not most of the expatriates are children of faculty or staff rather than fee-paying children of expatriates unaffiliated with the school. It is currently run by and named after Chadwick School in Palos Verdes, California in the United States of America, to which it pays a large fee for the right to use its name for the Korean campus. The main focus of the school's identity is on athletics and outdoor education, rather than academics, much like the school in California.

History

Chadwick International was created with a 150 billion won (135 million USD) investment by the Incheon Metropolitan City government[3] as part of the $40+ billion Songdo International Business District. The school charges the highest fees of any K-12 school in South Korea, but nonetheless its operating costs were subsidized by South Korean government entities to the amount of 50 million USD over the first five years of its existence. There have been five heads of school in the first six years of the school's existence, and three high school principals in the first four years of the high school's existence. Faculty turnover is high, with nearly all of the founding high school faculty and administrative staff departing within two years. The school has attracted very few faculty or staff from the Palos Verdes campus to work here full-time.
