Cërrik
Cërrik is a municipality in Elbasan County, central Albania. It was formed at the 2015 local government reform by the merger of the former municipalities Cërrik, Gostimë, Klos, Mollas and Shalës, that became municipal units. The seat of the municipality is the town Cërrik.[1] The total population is 27,445 (2011 census), in a total area of 189.65 km2.[2] The population of the former municipality at the 2011 census was 6,695.[3] Altitude (meters) 69. The football (soccer) team is KS Turbina Cërrik. In 1997 the Massacre of Cërrik happened.
Economy
The city developed around an oil refinery plant that started its operations in 1956, which had a production of 1,500 tons/day at its peak. Along with it, the plant produced, starting from 1962 lubrifying oils, and, starting from 1965 soap. The plant was closed for environmental issues in the 1990s and the city has lost its splendor since. As a result, unemployment is currently very high.[4]
