Centre For Higher Secondary Education more commonly known as CHSE is a Government run Higher Secondary school in Malé, Maldives which caters only to "A" level students. CHSE was inaugurated on 3 July 1979 under the name of Sciece Education Centre or SEC, with the aim of producing students qualified enough to enter universities abroad. It initially had 47 students and 4 teachers, and currently has over 1500 students and 90 teachers.

History

Establishment of SEC

SEC was established on 3 July 1979. SEC aims to prepare students for university level studies. The subjects taught at SEC initially were Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English. The following year, Economics and History were introduced. On the first year of its establishment, only 47 students were studying at SEC. And only 30 of these students sat the exam.

In 2001, the name Science Education Centre was changed to Centre for Higher Secondary Education.
