Catherine Crosby Long is an American attorney and beauty pageant titleholder from Brewton, Alabama. She was named Miss Alabama 2003 and was a semi-finalist at Miss America 2004.

Pageant career

Crosby was selected as Escambia County's Junior Miss in 1998.[2] She was crowned Miss Auburn University in 2001 but failed to place in the Miss Alabama competition that year. She won the Miss Painted Rock 2002 title and placed in the top ten at Miss Alabama 2002.[3]

In 2003, Crosby was crowned Miss Homewood Area.[4] Entering the 2003 Miss Alabama pageant as one of 50 finalists, Crosby's preliminary competition talent for Miss Alabama was playing the flute.[3][4] Crosby won the state competition on Saturday, June 14, 2003, when she received her crown from outgoing Miss Alabama titleholder Scarlotte Deupree.[5][6]

During her reign as Miss Alabama, Crosby appeared on an April 2004 episode of TLC's While You Were Out titled "Sweet Disco Alabama".[7] She had the show makeover her then-boyfriend's basement rec room.[8]

Crosby was Alabama's representative at the Miss America 2004 pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Her platform was "First Vote: America's Freedom to Choose", a program to teach young Americans the rights and responsibilities of citizenship, with a focus on voting.[3][6] Her competition talent was performing "Riverdance" on a flute. Crosby was a Top 15 semi-finalist for the title and won a Quality of Life award for her community work.[1]

Her reign as Miss Alabama continued until Deidre Downs was crowned on June 12, 2004.[9] (Downs was Crosby's first runner-up in 2003.)[4]

Personal life

Crosby is a native of Brewton, Alabama,[5] Her father is Larry Crosby, an insurance agency owner, and her mother is Ann Crosby, a banker.[3][6][10][11] Crosby has one sister, Elizabeth.[11] She married Frank Long on August 4, 2007. They have two sons, Franklin and Crosby.[12]

Education

Crosby is a 1998 graduate of T. R. Miller High School in Brewton.[6][13] In high school, she was a member of the band and president of her senior class.[3]

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Auburn University in 2002.[6] While an undergraduate, she earned admission to the Lambda Sigma sophomore honor society and the Omicron Delta Kappa national leadership honor society.[14]

Crosby earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in May 2007.[14] Since August 2007, she has been an associate in the Birmingham, Alabama, law office of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz.[12][14]
