When a young woman is found dead under circumstances described exactly in a book written by acclaimed author Richard Castle, he is brought in to provide insight into the case. When more victims turn up in similarly-accurate conditions described in his books, Castle volunteers to assist the investigation by applying his knowledge of criminal behavior and his own books to the department's considerable skills. It turns out that the killer is actually the brother of one of the victims, only killing the others because he wanted it to look like a crazy fan killed those people. Over the period of this case Castle becomes intrigued with Detective Beckett and starts writing a manuscript about a character based on her. At the end of the episode, Captain Montgomery informs Beckett that he's talked with the mayor about letting Castle shadow her to research the new character, much to her annoyance.

The only connection between the two victims is plastic surgeon Dr. Kelly Nieman (Annie Wersching), who apparently has no motive. Beckett and Vikram find out that the heroin matches the one coming from Vulcan Simmons' pipeline. Meanwhile, Castle asks Hayley to find out who Beckett is texting, and comes to the realization that she's looking for the murderers behind the Attorney General's office. After a failed attempt at catching someone who is part of the Drug Cartel, Beckett realizes that she can't do it alone, and admits it to Castle.

A body is found during Martha's singing rehearsal, of an ex-con turned a-capella singer. Castle, Beckett, and the team enter the world of competitive a-capella. At the same time, to keep up the act that Castle and Beckett are still separated, they act infuriated towards each other in front of Ryan and Esposito, but their acting works too well. They now think that Castle and Beckett are having an affair with a sexy Russian model named Svetlana, and a Dr. Livingstone, respectively.

Notes
- 1 2 "Still" was originally scheduled to be broadcast prior to "The Squab and the Quail", but was rescheduled following the Boston Marathon bombings.[108]
- ↑ ABC ordered an additional episode late in the production schedule, leaving the creative team with limited time to produce a full episode. Instead, the writers developed a clip-show episode using a few standing sets.[113]
- ↑ Season six episodes 1–11, 15 and 16 were broadcast one day earlier in Canada. The remaining episodes of the season were broadcast the same day as ABC.
