Carlos María de Pena Bonino[1] (born 11 March 1992 in Montevideo)[2] is an Uruguayan professional footballer who plays as a left winger for English club Middlesbrough in the Football League Championship. He made his first competitive debut on 22nd September in a 3-0 Capital One Cup victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers FC.

Club career

He made his official debut for Nacional on 19 February 2013, on Copa Libertadores match against Toluca. They won 3-2 Mexican territory.

His Middlesbrough debut occurred on 22nd September 2015 at the Riverside Stadium in the third round of the League Cup against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Middlesbrough won the game 3-0 with De Pena having a hand in all three goals.[4]

De Pena was involved in a car accident on his way to the airport before his move to Middlesbrough. Boro paid a reported fee of around £2.6m for the young winger. De Pena is predominantly a left winger but is expected to be used on either flank during the course of the season.
