CHF Partners in Rural Development
The Canadian Hunger Foundation is a non-profit organization helping to eradicate poverty in the developing countries of Asia, Africa and the Americas. It was founded in 1961 by Mitchell Sharp and its head office is in Ottawa, Canada.
Since its foundation in 1961, CHF has implemented over 800 projects in more than 50 countries.
The organization works with smallholder farmers in the world's poorest countries to boost their food security through improved farming techniques and better access to markets. CHF achieves this by identifying community strengths and building on them, in order to ensure sustainability and self-sufficiency.
The agency is financially sponsored by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the Sprott Foundation and has among its donors such institutions as Asian Development Bank, Caribbean Development Bank, Citizens Bank of Canada, International Development Research Centre (IDRC), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), International Fund of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), UNAIDS, Irish Aid, and others.
From April 2004 to March 2005, CHF spent about 7.4 million USD on its programs, from which about 300,000 USD in Vietnam.
