Bulimba is a ferry terminal in the suburb of Bulimba in Brisbane, Australia. The stop is used by CityCat and CityFerry services operating on the Brisbane River, and has been listed on the Queensland Heritage Register since 2003.[2]
History
The Bulimba ferry terminal was constructed by the Balmoral Shire Council in 1922, to replace the existing landing. GHM Addison & Son were commissioned to design the waiting shed, construction of which began in August 1922 under E. Taylor. The entire terminal was completed by the end of 1922.[2]
The waiting shed underwent an extensive renovation in 1985, which included the replacement of its clocks.[2]
2011 floods
In January 2011 the wharf sustained minor damage when the Brisbane River flooded.[3] It was repaired and reopened on 14 February 2011.[4][5]
2014 Upgrade
The terminal was closed from 5 August until 14 December 2014 in order facilitate an upgrade.[6] The upgrade will improve the efficiency of services by installing a multi-berth pontoon as well as overnight moorings for vessels.[7] [8]
Design
The terminal's waiting shed is an open timber-framed structure clad in weatherboard, and has a gabled roof with terracotta tiles. At the intersection of the roof gables is a short octagonal tower with four clock faces, topped by a metal cupola.[2]
