It is situated along Lengkok Bahru in the Bukit Merah vicinity. The school offers the Express, Normal Academic and Normal Technical streams leading to a GCE 'N' level or a GCE 'O' Level certificate. Students in the school are known as "Merahans". BMSS has established itself as a Value-Added school since 1993.

About the school

History

Bukit Merah Secondary School was established in 1968 and received its first batch of students on 4 January 1968. It was officially declared open by then-MP of Bukit Merah, Mr Lim Guan Hoo, on 16 May 1968.

In 2001, the school underwent the Ministry of Education (MOE)'s PRIME programme and shifted its location to a temporary holding site at 10 Raeburn Park so that rebuilding works could be carried out at its original Lengkok Bahru site. The school's rebuilding was completed in March 2003.

In January 2004, Delta Secondary School was merged into Bukit Merah Secondary School. The merged school is functioning at the newly rebuilt Bukit Merah Secondary School site at Lengkok Bahru.

The school celebrated its 40th anniversary on 12 April 2008, with Lui Tuck Yew as the Guest-of-Honour.

School Badge

The badge, shaped like a triangle, resembles a hill in red because the school is situated on a hill of red laterite. The lettering incorporates in the initials "bm" for Bukit Merah.

School Crest

The School Crest is a red triangle standing for a hill - Redhill or Bukit Merah - the name of the school. The insignia in the crest stands for "bm". The "bm" stands for Bukit Merah which is both the Malay and English name for the school. When viewed from afar, the wordings "bm" also resemble the cursive style of the Chinese characters "红山" (Redhill) which is the Chinese name for the school. The flash leads upwards to signify progress, steadfastness, sureness and the inculcation of values. In the flash is the school motto Sedia, meaning "Always be Prepared".

School Song

Youthful spirits are high and bright

BMSS is known far and wide

Tirelessly the teachers show the way

So firm, so loving, so sure to inspire

In school, no race nor creed that matters

We mix, we play like brothers and sisters

Wisdom, virtue, fortitude

Must not be found lacking

Our love for our country, constant, everlasting

Drum up courage and spirits

Service to our community

Be loyal to our country

Be this our aim, be this our glory!
