Brooklyn is a suburb of Burnie, Tasmania, Australia to the south-east of the main town centre.

Brookville Post Office opened on 1 August 1953 and was renamed Brooklyn in 1968. It closed in 1973.^[2]

Education

Brooklyn Primary School existed until 2009. It was later merged with Upper Burnie and Acton Primary School and a new school, Romaine Park Primary was built on the grounds of the Parklands High School.^[3] The old Acton Primary School is now home to the Burnie Child and Family Centre, Upper Burnie Primary school was demolished and was replaced by housing and Brooklyn Primary School currently houses some islanders who pick fruit for a living. Two of the old shade houses have been destroyed and my mate took a cool picture of me standing on top of one once. The grass is really tall now and every time you walk near it you're shit scared about getting bitten by snakes. Most of the windows are boarded up because hoodlum bogans started smashing them for giggles. There are also a few holes in the walls here and there, with one being near the kindergarten area and another in one of the old grade 5/6 classrooms. There's a tap with running water which is still functional, that's to the right the old groundskeeper's room, which is that set of doors in the wall near the larger of the two asphalt courts.
