Britain and Ireland's Next Top Model, Cycle 8 is the eighth cycle of Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model. It began to air on 9 July 2012.[1][2] This cycle once again featured fashion model Elle Macpherson as executive producer and host of the show alongside a judging panel consisting of Julien Macdonald, Tyson Beckford (former host of Make Me A Supermodel), and Whitney Port. Beckford and Port Replaced judges Grace Woodward and Charley Speed for the eighth instalment of the series.[3][4]

The prizes for this cycle were:[5]

The winner of the competition was 18-year-old Letitia Herod from Surrey, England. Letitia is the second winner of the series who did not receive a first call-out during the show, after Lauren McAvoy from Cycle 3.

Production

Cycle 8 auditions began on Monday 14 November in Dublin Ireland, and wrapped up in Newcastle on Thursday 1 December.[6] The filming of the show wrapped up on April 2012, and it began to broadcast on television on 9 July 2012.[1][2][7]

Judges

Two judges from the previous cycle did not retain their positions. Although Macpherson continued as judge and executive producer along with fashion designer Julien MacDonald, fashion stylist Grace Woodward, and model Charley Speed withdrew from the show. They were replaced by Whitney Port and Tyson Beckford, respectively.[8]

Contestants

The cycle featured a boot-camp stage, similar to that of previous cycles. In episode 1, three girls left the competition. Three more girls were eliminated in episode 2, with 14 girls proceeding to the main competition as finalists.[7]

International destination

This cycles first international destination was Dubai for the top twenty semi-finalists in episodes 1 and 2. The next international destination was Paris, for the remaining ten contestants in episode 6. The last international destination of the season was Toronto, for the remaining five contestants.[7][9][10]

Episode 1

Original Airdate: 9 July 2012[11]

Elle Macpherson and the judges welcome the top twenty semi-finalists for the eighth cycle of Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model. The girls arrive in limos with suitcases were they all meet for the first time, and they must style themselves for a runway show in front of press, judges and fans of the show. Some of the girls, such as Penelope, Emma S., Danielle, Roxanne and Vanessa have nervous walks on the runway, while Kellie, Louisa, Amelia, Emma G., and Letitia stand out due to their modelling potential. Elle decides which girls out of the 20 will continue in the competition.

In a top model twist, all twenty girls are taken to the Atlantis, The Palm hotel in Dubai for their first photo shoot. Madeleine is confronted by some of the other contestants due to her bad attitude. For Catherine and Vanessa, the pressure is too much, and they ultimately decide to withdraw from the competition. Julien announces to the girls that for one of them it will be their last night in the competition. The remaining eighteen girls take part in a swimwear shoot to determine who will be eliminated.

Group Contestants
One Anita, Emma G., Rissikat
Two Anna, Anne, Jennifer, Penelope
Three Danielle, Louisa, Madeleine, Roxanne
Four Diona, Emma S., Kellie
Five Amelia, Letitia, Lisa, Tasmin

Anita, Rissikat and Emma G. are the first group to shoot. Emma G. is deemed as looking the most 'natural' while Rissikat and Anita struggle. Tyson likes Anne, and both he and Whitney love Jennifer's face. They love Roxanne's smile during her shoot, but not Madeleine's attitude. Whitney loves Diona's face but not her body. The last girls to go are Letitia, Amelia, Lisa, and Tasmin (who initially struggles).

The judges deliberate and make their decision. The next morning, Elle meets the girls and reveals to them that Danielle will be eliminated from the competition.

Episode 2

Original Airdate: 16 July 2012[12][13]

The girls receive an Elle mail telling them to put on their bikinis and meet her by the pool. The models have a one-on-one meeting with the judges. Roxanne admits that she is partly competing to give her daughter a better future. The judges like Tasmin's body, but Julien calls her a 'pole dancer'. Rissikat becomes nervous, and confesses that it is the fourth year she is applying for the show. Diona comes under criticism by the judges, and is told that she is better suited for acting. Julien dislikes Penelope, as well as Jennifer's tattoos. Tyson dislikes Madeleine's attitude, while Julien says that he does not see a model in Emma S., which causes her to cry backstage. Elle does not remember Kellie very much. Amelia and Emma G. are told that their personalities are weak. Louisa states that modelling isn't her passion. The judges express their love for Letitia and describe her as having 'the entire package'.

After the meetings, the girls receive another Elle Mail mentioning humps, for a photo-shoot with camels. A sandstorm later prevents the Camel shoot from taking place. It is replaced by an indoor photo-shoot in groups. The first girls to shoot are Anna, Letitia and Madeleine. The second set of girls are Emma G, Amelia, Emma S., and Roxanne, all of whom perform relatively well as a group. Jennifer, Anne, Anita, and Tasmin struggle during their session, and Elle believes that none of them stood out. Diona, Louisa, and Lisa Struggle the most. The last group of the day is Kellie, Rissikat, and Penelope, who stands out for her marked improvement from the previous week of the competition.

Anna, Diona, and Louisa are ultimately eliminated from the competition. In a shocking exit, Amelia decides to withdraw from the show for 'personal reasons', making her the third girl to quit the competition.

Episode 3

Original Airdate: 23 July 2012[14][15]

The girls move into the top model house, and find a handbag with a message that tells them to pick numbers from the bag to determine roommates. The models later receive an Elle Mail telling them about a cocktail party that will be arranged for them. Anita begins to flirt with one of the barmen. Last year's winner Jade Thompson drops by to talk with the girls about her experiences on the show.

The girls are given another Elle Mail that announces they will have to walk on a runway with animals for their first challenge. The next morning, the models arrive are at Chessington Zoo. Catwalk coach Matt Henry shows up in a safari jeep and reveals to the girls that they will be doing a runway show with animals from the zoo. They are given envelopes with the animals they will have to walk with. Lisa and Letitia walk first with a snake, much to Lisa's dismay. Roxanne and Emma S. have to walk with a chicken. Roxanne does a relatively good job, while Emma S. loses control over her chicken. Rissikat and Tasmin are given parrots. Rissikat is deemed to be the best performer of the day, while Tasmin is criticised as one of the worst. Rissikat is revealed to be the challenge winner.

Jennifer and Penelope go next. Initially, the shoot goes well, but Jennifer begins to feel sick, and is brought back down for attention. They later resume their session, and Jennifer is complemented for her resolve. Emma G. and Kellie are told that they are bringing something new to the shoot. Emma S and Roxanne are encouraged to hug each other during their session. Anita and Lisa are the final pair of the day, and do well together despite Anita's fear of heights. Rissikat goes up on her own as the challenge winner, leaving all the other girls jealous.

The models receive their final Elle mail of the week, which tells them to prepare their bags for their first elimination the following day.

At panel, Alesha Dixon is guest judge for the week. Anita and Lisa are first. Tyson likes Anita shot but feels that she did not fulfill the brief. Whitney is impressed with Lisa's shot. Most of the girls receive mixed feedback, while Anne impresses the judges with her picture. Emma S. comes under heavy criticism due to her lack of confidence, which ultimately lands her in the bottom two with Tasmin – who also failed to impress the judges. Tasmin is given a second chance, and Emma S. becomes the first girl to leave the competition.

Episode 4

Original Airdate: 30 July 2012[16]

The models arrive back at the house from the previous elimination, and find police tape everywhere. They also find mugshots on the wall, telling them that their hair and appearance is a crime against fashion. The girls prepare for makeovers the following day.

During makeovers, the models are divided into groups with one of the judges to determine what their makeovers will be.

Models Judge
Anne, Madeleine, Roxanne Julien
Anita, Emma G., Rissikat Tyson
Letitia, Lisa, Tasmin Whitney
Jennifer, Kellie, Penelope Elle

Elle tells Jennifer that she will be getting a short mohawk style with black hair, which worries Jennifer – who tries to hide it. Tyson reveals to Rissikat that the inspiration behind her makeover is Halle Berry, and tells her that she will receive a short boyish haircut. Lisa becomes distraught and cries when her long hair is snipped into a pixie cut. Kellie receives a bob cut, while Roxanne receives orange hair for her makeover, which also makes her cry. Madeleine is given a long weave, to distract from her harsh face. Penelope is given blond extensions, but complains that her new hair looks like a wig. Letitia and Emma G.'s hair is lightened, while Tasmin and Anita are given fringes.

After arriving back at the house, the models find an Elle Mail. They get their teeth whitened in Mervyn Druian's cosmetic dentistry. Letitia ultimately had to stop the whitening of her teeth because it was uncomfortable. The other girls begin to criticize Letitia, and believe she is 'acting like a baby'.

The models are sent on a sexy prison photo-shoot featuring baby g watches. Most girls do relatively well, with Roxanne being the best of the day despite sometimes forgetting to show her watch. After arriving back home from the shoot, the girls find the final Elle Mail of the week, which tells them to prepare for an elimination the following day.

At panel, Kimberly Wyatt is guest judge of the week. Madeleine is the first model up for judging. Tyson likes her shot, and her new hair. Letitia is complimented by the judges on her beauty, but criticized for her lack of variety on set. Kellie is castigated for her lack of confidence. Elle believes Julien did a great job with Roxanne's makeover, while Whitney thinks he did a really bad job, and thinks the new hair doesn't do her justice. Lisa, Rissikat, Anne, and Anita are complimented. Tasmin lands in the bottom two for the second week in a row along with Penelope, for their poor performance at the shoot. Tasmin is saved once more, while Penelope is eliminated from the competition.

Episode 5

Original Airdate: 6 August 2012[17]

The episode starts at last weeks elimination, where Roxanne is pleased with her first call-out. The girls compare their photographs. Madeleine states that Emma G. should have gotten photograph of the week, and a fight breaks out between the two of them.

The next day the remaining girls have to write down their insecurities on a T-shirt and talk about them in front of 200 school children.

Model Insecurity
Anita Short fuse
Anne Nose
Emma G. Shy
Jennifer Second choice
Kellie Lost and lonely
Letitia Worried
Lisa Misunderstood
Madeleine Too competitive
Rissikat Odd
Roxanne Lack of confidence
Tasmin Closed off

Kellie finds the challenge difficult as she is a positive person. Aled from BBC Radio 1 was there to wish the girls good luck. Anne was the most nervous, but she went out there and talked about her nose. Most girls managed to impress, and they all won a girls night out in a rooftop bar overlooking Trafalgar Square. The girls receive an Elle mail which tells them that they will need to man up and "Do it like a dude" for the upcoming photo-shoot.

The following morning, some girls have a hangover and are annoyed that they have to wake up so early. Tyson greets the girls at an old manor and tells them that although they will be styled like boys, they will need to bring their feminine charm into the photo. Tyson then informs the girls that they only have five minutes to get their best shot. Most girls misunderstand the brief and try to pose like boys, which leaves Tyson unimpressed.

At panel, Andreja Pejic is guest judge of the week. Once again Emma G., Lisa, Letitia and Roxanne are praised for producing amazing photos, though Tyson makes a personal comment about Roxanne's attitude. Jennifer excels, while Madeleine is praised for finding an angle that works for her face. The judges also like Kellie's face, but not how the clothes look on her.

During the elimination ceremony, Elle announces there will be a joint first call-out, which goes to Emma G. and Roxanne. Anne and Tasmin, for the third consecutive time, find themselves in the bottom two. Anne for her simple pose and pouty face and Tasmin for not knowing how to work her body. In the end, Tasmin is eliminated from the competition.

Episode 6

Original Airdate: 13 August 2012

This week, the girls had a challenge where they had to act, and pretend that they were on the phone with their lover. However, the girls were told that they would be speaking in French. Madeleine, who spent a lot of her childhood in France, arrogantly assumed that she would win the challenge due to her being fluent in French, but she was then told she would have to speak in Italian, much to the other girls' delight. Emma G. was deemed to be the worst in the challenge, whilst Rissikat and Letitia were deemed the best. Letitia won the challenge and got extra frames for her next photo shoot. The catch was that she needed to take the frames from another girl, halving theirs. Letitia chose Anne, forgetting she was in the bottom two the last week, and Roxanne became confused as to why Letitia didn't see her as a bigger threat in the competition.

The girls are whisked away to Paris, which resulted in a happy Anita, as she would be there for her birthday. The girls are told that they would be posing outdoors and with a male model in a photo shoot for Impulse Body Spray, and that they would each symbolize a different spray. These included, True Love and Goddess. Anne notably struggled on set, as did Roxanne, and the client was less that impressed with Madeleine, stating that she disliked Madeleine's look and attitude. Anita had her first good photo shoot, and Lisa was deemed as having potential to be a supermodel. At judging, Anita's commercial, yet stunning photo won the judges over, with her receiving first call-out. Jennifer's punky look in the photo was seen as a good thing, and Letitia is criticized for resting on being pretty, and for choosing to half Anne's shots, as she was in the bottom two the week before. In the end, Emma G.'s lackluster photo landed her in the bottom two with Anne. Emma G. was spared, and Anne was asked to leave the show.

Episode 7

Original Airdate: 20 August 2012

Many of the girls are shocked after high-fashion and experienced Anne's departure, but they are also glad that Emma G. is still in the competition. This week's challenge had the girls be living mannequins on Carnaby Street, with shoppers voting for who they thought the best "mannequins" were. TV presenter Laura Whitmore joined the girls to motivate and watch them during the challenge. However, Rissikat walked off because she thought the challenge was nothing to do with becoming a top model. Despite Rissikat's bad attitude, Kellie was revealed to have been the least favorite with the public, whilst Emma G. was the most popular, winning a shopping spree. Back at the house, Madeleine's catty and arrogant personality becomes too much for Anita and Roxanne, with both believing she is ugly on the inside and the outside.

The photo shoot this week was for Company Magazine, where all the girls appeared in photos with Rizzle Kicks. Madeleine impressed the client, but frustrated the photographer, Anita flirted with Rizzle Kicks, and Letitia struggled to find a good shot. Victoria White, the fashion editor of Company Magazine, revealed that 5 girls' photos would be chosen to appear in the magazine.

At panel, Letitia had her worst shoot today, Tyson thought that Jennifer's photo was worthy of Vogue Magazine, and the judges couldn't understand how the client liked Madeleine's photo. In the end, Lisa's stunning and simplistic shot won her photo of the week and a page in Company Magazine, whilst Anita, Rissikat, Roxie and Madeleine's photos were also chosen by the client. Kellie and Madeleine were this week's bottom two. Shockingly, Madeleine was spared from elimination due to the client liking her photo, and Irish beauty Kellie was eliminated.

Episode 8

Original Airdate: 27 August 2012

Many girls are unhappy that Madeleine is still in the competition, particularly Roxanne and Anita, due to her bad attitude, but nevertheless decide to care more about making sure that they themselves do well. This week's challenge has the girls 'walk on water' – a runway show where the runway has a low level of water that they have to walk on. The rehearsal is a disaster, with Madeleine, Anita and Jennifer being criticized for appearing to have not practiced, and Rissikat takes a tumble. Fortunately, the show goes smoothly, with Lisa and Emma G. stealing the show. Lisa is declared the winner of the challenge.

This week's photo shoot involved nude male models; also the girls had to all wear identical dresses, as a way to make them compete against each other even more. Model Paul Sculfor watched the girls on set.

At panel, the judges are yet again disappointed by Madeleine's photo, and her attitude also comes into question, with Tyson and Julien believing that Madeleine already believes she is a supermodel and doesn't need to take any advice given to her. Jennifer's usual edginess fades away this week, with her photo being deemed forgettable and flat. Emma G. and Letitia exert sex appeal in their photos, and Anita is criticized for making her mouth look tense. Emma G.'s strong photo earned her photo of the week, and Jennifer joined Madeleine in the bottom two. Yet again, Madeleine was safe from elimination, and the high fashion and androgynous Jennifer was sent packing.

Episode 9

Original Airdate: 3 September 2012

Back at the house, the girls were upset that Jennifer was sent home and Madeleine had doubts about her place in the competition.

At the challenge the girls had to give critique to the other models, the challenge was won by Rissikat.

At the photo shoot, the girls pose as "creepy" dolls.

At panel, Rissikat receives the first call-out for the best photo and winning the challenge. Madeleine and Roxanne landed in the bottom-two. Madeleine was criticized for a weak photo and that she couldn't hold with the remaining girls and Roxanne had also a weak image. In the end, Roxanne got a second chance and Madeleine was sent home due to her third consecutive bottom-two appearance.

Episode 10

Original Airdate: 10 September 2012

After the elimination, the remaining six girls go to a picnic with Elle. She reveals that she wants to have them take part in them two photo shoots instead of one. And after that, Elle also reveals that the girls who survive the next elimination will go to Toronto.

The first session is a spider themed photo shoot with a tarantula. The second one is a cosmetics advertisement for Revlon.

At panel, Lisa receives picture of the week and a ticket to Canada, followed by Anita, Rissikat and Emma G. Roxanne and Letitia land in the bottom two, but Elle says that they both did a good job. In the end, the judges pick Letitia to join the other four girls on the flight to Canada, and Roxanne is eliminated.
