Britain's Next Top Model, Cycle 6 was the sixth cycle of Britain's Next Top Model, and the sixth cycle to air on Living. It premiered on 5 July 2010. This cycle featured a completely revamped judging panel. Host Lisa Snowden was replaced by supermodel Elle Macpherson. The new judging panel consisted of fashion designer Julien McDonald, fashion stylist Grace Woodward, and male model Charley Speed.

The winner was 18-year-old Tiffany Pisani, from the island country of Malta, after beating Alisha White and Joy Mclaren in a public vote during a live finale (a first for Britain's Next Top Model). She won a modelling contract with Models 1 agency, a six-page fashion editorial, along with an appearance on the cover of Company (magazine), and a £100,000 contract with Revlon cosmetics, which included a photo shoot for the company's "Colorburst Lipstick" and campaigns posing as the face of Revlon's Autumn/Winter 2010 trend collection launching in the UK in November.

Production

Living have advertised Britain's Next Top Model under the slogan "when it comes to top models, it takes one to find one" heavily from 1 June 2010, advertising the new host Elle Macpherson. Also with an increased budget Cycle 6 claims to be "bigger, better and more high-fashion than ever before." It was confirmed on 18 June that series 6 would finish with a 90-minute live finale, where the public would get to choose the winner. Mark Sammon, head of commissioning for Virgin Media TV, said updating the format would give a shot-in-the-arm to the series.

"Living’s audience never shies from telling us what they think, so I cannot think of a more discerning panel of judges to finally decide who truly deserves to be Britain’s Next Top Model," said Sammon.[1]

Judges

This cycle saw major changes in the show. Macpherson took over hosting duties and became the new executive producer, and there were three new judges: fashion designer Julien MacDonald OBE, Vogue's fashion stylist of the year Grace Woodward, and model Charley Speed.

Contestants

This series featured a boot-camp stage, with 25 semi-finalists starting the competition in the cycle premiere, the largest amount of girls that the show started with. Girls were eliminated in the first episode, and the number of finalists was reduced, with the rest moving into the Britain's Next Top Model Mansion, in London.

Like Cycle 5, the public could choose one girl out of four to make the final 25 who could then possibly make it to the final 13. On 11 February, 20-year-old Emma Williams won the vote and became part of the final 25, but ultimately did not progress to the Top Model house.

International Destination

There were three international destinations this cycle; Spain, Norway and Malaysia.

In episode 6, the remaining 9 girls traveled to Alicante, Spain. Then, in episode 8, the remaining 7 girls went to Hardanger, Norway. Finally, in episode 11, the 5 remaining girls traveled to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; which became the first Asian destination in the series.

Episode Guide

Episode 1

Original Airdate: 5 July 2010

Twenty-five girls from all over the U.K arrived to the Elle Macpherson "Model Academy" in order to narrow down the top 13 finalists. The girls met two of the new judges, stylist Grace Woodward and model Charley Speed. They then changed into the top model uniforms that were left out for them in a waiting room. The girls ultimately met Elle Macpherson, and had their head shot taken for the first time. After that, the semi-finalists tested their abilities on the catwalk as Charlie Speed gave them tips on how to improve their runway walks and Simone falls out. Following their introduction to the catwalk, the girls had one-on-one interviews with the judges. They were particularly impressed with a handful of the girls - most notably Tiffany, Olivia, Amba, and Kirsty among others. The judges quickly deliberated, and they eliminated five girls on the spot:

The remaining girls took part in a "St Trinian's" themed photo shoot with photographer Nicky Johnston in the following groups:

Group Title Contestants
Geeks Alisha, Delita, Jennifer, Kirsty, Marie
Preps Amba, Joy, Kadian, Sophie, Susan
Cool Girls Amelia, Harleen, Nicola, Samirah, Tiffany
Sports Team Charlotte, Hannah, Olivia, Rachelle, Simone

The judges then deliberated over the girls performances and finally decided on their the final 13 girls. After all thirteen girls were called, Elle spoke up. Initially, Alisha had been called out as the last contestant to join the finalists, but Elle then revealed that a spot had been opened in the competition in order to house Susan Loughnane from Dublin, Ireland - as the fourteenth girl to join the cast of Britain's Next Top Model Cycle 6.

Episode 2

Original Airdate: 12 July 2010

For the lingerie themed photo shoot, the contestants pose with male models in the following pairs:

Pairs
Alisha & Olivia
Amba & Susan
Amelia & Hannah
Charlotte & Rachelle
Delita & Tiffany
Harleen & Nicola
Joy & Kirsty

The photographer thought that both Olivia and Alisha are gorgeous, but needs some time before they really got it. Amba and Susan was praised for being creative and seductive. Hannah, however, failed to perform, so that Amelia, who continuously got great feedback, easily outshining her. Both of Charlotte and Rachelle are very playful around the set, but Delita failed to fully impress the photographer while Tiffany excelled. Harleen disliked being photographed in lingerie, so she didn't perform really well, her partner Nicola managed okay, but Joy and Kirsty are the best pair of the day.

At elimination, the judges were very pleased with most of the girls performances, but they were not being won over by Delita's lack of presence during panel. Amelia's shot was universally praised, for being both fairytale-like and seductive enough to sell the lingerie, but the best photo comes to Joy who singlehandedly nailing the shoot. The judges were also impressed by Kirsty, Nicola and Tiffany's shots. Harleen, however, told that her shot was great but her film wasn't.

Elle said Delita's was good but not powerful, but it did not meet the quality that the judges expected from her. Delita and Hannah ultimately landed in the bottom two, and as Elle was about to reveal the eliminee - Hannah expressed she no longer wanted to remain in the running due to self doubts about her place in the competition. Hannah's decision to quit at panel, automatically saved Delita from being eliminated, and Hannah became the first girl to leave. It was revealed in an interview on handbag.com that Delita would have been eliminated had Hannah decided to stay in the competition.

Episode 3

Original Airdate: 19 July 2010

The girls had to model expensive jewellery whilst holding a light stick. Nicola excelled, as did Charlotte, Alisha and Tiffany (despite her being distressed from her drastic haircut) Delita had a quiet comeback after being in the bottom two the week before, and the judges were displeased with Olivia's attitude at panel. Harleen and Amelia began to struggle for the first time in the competition, but it was Rachelle and Olivia who landed in the bottom two. Rachelle for not taking direction well and her repetitive facial expressions, and Olivia for failing to taking the competition more seriously. It was finally decided that Olivia possessed more modeling potential, and she was spared over Rachelle, who was asked to leave the competition.

Episode 4

Original Airdate: 26 July 2010

In this week's challenge, the models pose with the following items by Red which helps eliminate and fight AIDS in Africa. Alisha is chosen as the winner.

Model Prop
Alisha Headphones
Amba Mini laptop
Amelia High top sneakers
Charlotte Skateboard
Delita Stroller
Harleen Books
Joy Flowers
Kirsty Rings
Nicola Sunglasses
Olivia T-shirt
Tiffany Suspenders

This week's photo shoot involved the girls taking photos for the anti-bullying campaign Beat Bullying in the following scenarios:

Model Scenario
Alisha There's nowhere to hide
Amba It may be virtual to you, but it's real to her
Amelia It might make them like me
Charlotte You can speak out
Delita Cyberbullying - there's no escape
Harleen I feel so alone
Joy They told me next time it will be worse
Kirsty They said I was the only one who hadn't done it
Nicola Being different isn't being wrong
Olivia Leave me alone
Tiffany Mirror mirror on the wall, I am the ugliest of them all

Some of the girls shone and produced great photos, including Alisha, Joy and Charlotte. Other girls struggled greatly with the task, those being Amelia, Harleen, Amba and particularly Delita, the last who claimed she struggled with the task and failed to relate to it because she had never been bullied and didn't know what it was like. However, despite another lackluster photo from Delita and Charley's doubting if her time in the competition was up, she progressed to the next week. Memorable comments on the girls photo this week included: Charley on Delita's photo: "You look like you're watching a mildly interesting programme on the TV." Julien on Nicola's photo: "It looks like you're waiting for your long lost love!"

Harleen and Amelia are called forward as the bottom two and Harleen is eliminated due to her beauty not shining through in her photos.

Episode 5

Original Airdate: 2 August 2010

The girls shot a TV ad for Beyoncé's new fragrance for the challenge. Kirsty won the challenge and a night out and chose Nicola and Amelia to join her. Charlotte seemed disappointed by this, but didn't act upon her disappointment. The girls had a photo shoot for covered in chocolate with nude for a body product shop campaign. Nicola's photo was the favourite of the company director, thus earning her the first call-out. Delita and Tiffany were announced as the bottom two, Delita for producing her only good photograph, but overall the weakest film, and Tiffany for what seemed to be a lack of versatility. Tiffany's previous strong performances spared her and an unsurprised Delita was sent home.

Episode 6

Original Airdate: 9 August 2010

The remaining girls arrived in Birmingham to be greeted by R'n'B singer Alesha Dixon with a challenge to sell her latest brand of jewellery live on TV. After an hour of practicing, the girls were thrown in the deep end and presented on GemsTV. Charlotte was initially nervous but Alesha stated she was a natural, Alisha used her energetic and bubbly personality to sell the products, Tiffany was extremely nervous at first but decided she wanted to smile and focus more on looking friendly than messing up. However, it was Joy who felt the full brunt of presenting on live TV and she sadly succumbed to nervousness and swore twice. The girls were then taken to Gatwick Airport to be greeted by Grace who gave them £500 each to shop around the airport before they were jetted off to Alicante, Spain for a swimsuit photo shoot. At judging, Amba and Nicola were in the bottom two. In the end, a shocked Amba was eliminated in a very emotional elimination.

Episode 7

Original Airdate: 16 August 2010

This week the girls went to the location and set of Hollyoaks for an acting challenge. Joy won and was given a speaking part in an episode and a night out with two cast members. She chose to take Alisha as well. The main photo shoot was a Horror-based Scream Queens shoot, featuring the girls in horror situations.

Model Horror Theme
Alisha Grasped by Zombies
Amelia Chased by a Serial Killer
Charlotte Possessed by Poltergeist
Joy Possessed by a Demon
Kirsty Stabbing Victim
Nicola Shower Victim
Olivia Man Eating Zombie
Tiffany Axe Welding Victim

At Panel Most of the girls excelled, especially Olivia, gaining her first call-out. The judges felt that Nicola's photo was not as strong as her previous photos, even though it was a decent shot, and deemed Amelia's photo as "super fake" and she was told to get real and to not just focus on her beauty at shoots. Despite the comments from the judges that seemed to imply that Amelia would be sent packing, Nicola was eliminated despite having 2 first call-outs. Amelia's levels of versatility, personality and modelling ability seemed to be ignored, a decision that many fans of the show disliked, and Nicola was sent home as she was deemed to be forgettable in the personality department and her photos were declining as the competition progressed.

Episode 8

Original Airdate: 23 August 2010

This week, the girls did a challenge on the high street. They had to pick clothes from a store and present them on camera. Charlotte won the challenge for welcoming and friendly presenting skills. The judges of the challenge didn't like Olivia's choice of clothes because they were too revealing and risque.

When they arrived home, they were told they were going to Norway. Once they had arrived they embarked on a helicopter ride to a glacier which they did their photo shoots wearing outfits created from plastic bottles. The best photo would win a campaign with their photo.

At the photo shoot, it was -5 degrees. Alisha and Kirsty worried about the cold. This then led to Alisha struggling with the cold in her photo shoot. Tiffany also struggled with the cold and it proved a big challenge for everyone. the photographer was disappointed with Tiffany who seemed to have the attitude that she wanted to just get it over with.

At panel, Charlotte is told she won the campaign. Tiffany's attitude comes up at panel. Olivia and Joy don't do well. The judges feel Kirsty is constantly producing only amateur photos. The judges thought Alisha's body and her face just weren't working together. Amelia, however, told that her photo was amazing and a very nice bounce back after last week's atrocious photo.

During elimination, Amelia was told she would've been called first if Charlotte had not won the campaign, so she was called second. Alisha and Kirsty find themselves in the bottom two, and a not-so-surprised Kirsty is eliminated.

Episode 9

Original Airdate: 30 August 2010

The girls have to do a beauty shot for Revlon which piles on the pressure as the show's eventual winner will be given a Revlon campaign. Then the girls are reaching new heights as they perform in a falling photo shoot for Galaxy Ripple which pushes some girls, especially Amelia and Olivia, to the limit. After Amelia received injury taking part in the shoot and she called an ambulance, Olivia became scared and could not do the jump, resulting in the decision that she should not take part in the shoot.

At panel, nobody managed to do well on both shoots. Amelia and Charlotte are lauded for strong beauty shot, but their campaign photo weren't amazing, just good. Alisha was praised for perfect beauty shot, but her horrible campaign photo turns the judges down. Tiffany and Joy failed to do well on both shoots, while Olivia didn't do the campaign shoot, her beauty shot was horrible as well. In the end, Alisha shockingly called first, ahead of Amelia and Charlotte, but Tiffany and Olivia find themselves in the bottom two. Tiffany was spared and Olivia was sent home.

The tables turn on the final five when Nicky Johnston sets them a challenge to be the photographer on a shoot based in their model house. Amelia, Joy and Tiffany were praised for both their photo's, Alisha managed to produce a phenomenal photo with George Lamp but her wasp shot was considered a miss, Charlotte's wasp shot on the other hand received strong positive criticism but her photo with George Lamp was too commercial, At elimination, Elle says for Charlotte and Joy to both pack their bags, because they (as well as the other three girls) are going overseas to Malaysia, meaning that no one would be eliminated.
