Brisbane to Gladstone yacht race
The Brisbane to Gladstone yacht race is held annually, starting on Good Friday. The premier blue water classic begins from Shorncliffe in Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia and finishes in Gladstone Harbour. It attracts competitors from interstate and usually attracts a fleet of 40 to 100 boats. The race has been running since 1949. The past winners are below. The Organising Authority is the Queensland Cruising Yacht Club and the finish is hosted by the Port Curtis Sailing Club.
The Course
The course leads the yachts northwards from the start line at the Shorncliffe pier every Good Friday[1] in Shorncliffe up the main channel of Moreton Bay, out of Moreton Bay leaving Fraser Island to port. After passing Breaksea spit the yacts have to leave Lady Elliot Island to port. The yachts then make a quick dash as they are on the home strait into Gladstone harbour.
