Brett Johnson (born 15 August 1985) is an English footballer for Margate as a defender. He can play in both centre-back and left-back positions. He plays for Margate after being released by Conference National side Woking at the end of the 2013–14 season. He was part of the team that beat Hendon 1–0 to win the delayed Isthmian League Premier Division Play-Off Final in May 2015.
Career
Johnson started his career at Ashford Town (Middlesex) before being signed by Aldershot Town in 2004. An impressive season for Aldershot saw Johnson attracting interest from several league clubs. He eventually signed for Northampton Town. He managed just 26 league games in three seasons for the Cobblers, which also included loan spells at Gravesend & Northfleet and Grays Athletic.
It was announced that he would be released by Northampton Town at the end of the 2007–08 season, when his contract expired.[2] Johnson signed a one-year contract for Brentford on 5 August 2008 after successful trial spell. He was released at the end of the season and spent pre-season training with Conference National side AFC Wimbledon, signing on 4 August 2009.[3] He joined Conference National side Cambridge United on a one-month loan deal on 27 January 2012.[4]
Johnson signed a pre-contract agreement to join newly promoted Conference club Woking from 1 August. He remained at the club for two seasons, but due to numerous injuries he was not offered a contract for the 2014–15 season and was released.
