Two-year-old season
As a two-year-old, Bluegrass Cat broke his maiden in his second lifetime start in a seven furlong race at Belmont Park. In his third career race, he won the Nashua Stakes, also at Belmont. He was ridden by regular jockey John R. Velazquez and finished the mile in 1:38.02. In his next race, he won the 1 1/8 mile Remsen Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack. It was his first two-turn race, and his time was 1:52.20.
Three-year-old season
To Start off his Kentucky Derby campaign, Pletcher opted to send Bluegrass Cat to Tampa to run in the Sam F. Davis Stakes on February 16, 2016. He won taking 1:44.17 to close out the 1 and 1/16 mile race. He followed this race with a bid in the Grade II Florida Derby. Coming up just short and finishing second, Pletcher chose to send Bluegrass Cat to Lexington for the Grade I, Bluegrass Stakes

Finish Line
Although he came out of the 2006 Travers in seemingly good shape, the next morning he was found to be lame in his right hind pastern. Xrays showed he had a nondisplaced fracture. Bluegrass Cat is now retired from racing with five wins and four places out of eleven starts, and earnings of $1,761,280. He'll be going home to WinStar to stand at stud for $50,000 beginning in 2007.
