Birkeland is the administrative centre of the municipality of Birkenes in Aust-Agder, Norway. Its population (2009) is 2,426, and the village area covers 2.18 square kilometres (540 acres).[1] The village is located on Norwegian national road 41, about 30 kilometres (19 mi) northeast of Kristiansand and 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) northwest of Lillesand. The river Tovdalselva flows through the village.
The old Lillesand–Flaksvand Line was a railway line that passed through Birkeland.
