Big Brother & the Holding Company is the debut album from Big Brother and the Holding Company and the studio debut of Janis Joplin. It was originally released in the summer of 1967,on Vinyl as #6099 from Mainstream records, following the band's major success at the Monterey Pop Festival. It was reissued a number of times on Vinyl in the US and other countries. The US re-issues are as follows:By Mainstream records #MS86099 in 1967, By Mainstream records as a MONO Vinyl #56099 in 1967, By Columbia as #10205 in 1967, by Columbia as #LET10205 in 1970, by Columbia as a Limited Edition # LE-10205 in 1970, Columbia reissued it again in 1971 4 separate times as #C30631, Columbia Legacy re-issued it again as #CK66425, and then as a reissued of #CK6625 it was packaged as #CT66425 both in 1999. It was next reissued by Sundazed Music as #LP5188 in 2008. Then Columbia reissued it again this time as a 180 Gram record #88697-978231 in 2011. After the 2011 reissued Columbia reissued it as 10205, and then as a Columbia Products # P13313. Mainstream re-issued it twice as normal vinyl #S6099 and again as a 180 gram with the number #S6099. It has been reissued outside the US In Canada, France , New Zealand, Japan, Europe, Russia, Australia, and Germany. For at total of 46 versions. To most US collector's the only US Versions worth collecting are the original issue of 1967, to include the Mono version,the Limited Edition Version of 1970 and the original 180 Gram version of 2011.

The album was a minor success, peaking at #60[1] and almost producing a top forty hit with the song "Down on Me". A year after its initial release, Big Brother would release their second album Cheap Thrills which went on to become a massive hit.
