Bengal Institute of Technology (BIT) is an engineering college in Kolkata in the state of West Bengal, India. It is currently under the West Bengal University of Technology and is a part of Techno India group. The Institute is situated on Basanti Highway a few kilometers off from downtown Kolkata. It is affiliated to West Bengal University of Technology and is approved by the AICTE.

History

Bengal Institute of Technology was established in the year 2000 under the aegis of Kalyani University, later affiliated to Techno-India Group which has the distinction of largest number of Engineering Colleges in West Bengal. The Group is engaged in development of tertiary level Technical Manpower to serve the emerging knowledge-based Society.

Location

Bengal Institute of Technology's education city has its campus in Hadia, on Basanti highway, Kolkata near the Leather Complex, 15 minutes from Science City.

Campus

The college has two campus, one for First year B.Tech and Biotechnology students, another for the rest. It is a complete Wi-Fi campus with fully automated library and a student activity center for co-curricular and extracurricular activities.[1]

Events

The Bengal Institute of Technology hosts its annual cultural festival "Impulse" at Kala Mandir. With a history of having a variety of Artists performing, "Impulse" is regarded as one of the best cultural fests of Kolkata.

The annual technical fest named "Bits2Bytes" hosts a number of events in robotics, gaming, coding, projects and quizzes.

The annual sports fest is named "Blitzkrieg", hosts a number of sporting events including a special sports day to organize track & field competitions.

The event Facepulse at Impulse 2013, Snap-o-mania and Poetry-pulse in Impulse 2014, created a lot of hype around colleges in Kolkata and even attracted participants from Non-residential Bengalis even from the U.S. and since has become a trend-setting event for various college fests.

Central Library

The Central Library consists of a number of department libraries which collectively support the teaching, research and extension programmes of the institute. All students, faculty members and employees are entitled to use the library facilities on taking membership. The library besides having a huge collection of books on engineering, science and bioinformatics, humanities and social sciences. It uses Libsys/SIM software package which is an integrated multi-user library management system that supports all in-house operations. Libsys consists of modules on acquisition, cataloging, circulation, serials, article indexing and OPAC. The Central Library has 1762 titles, 19953 volumes, 17 national journals, 6300+ e-journals, 5 magazines.[2]
