Music video

A music video was filmed for the song, that humorously showed various people (including the members of the band) shoplifting produce from a grocery store. It was directed by Casey Niccoli.[6] The video was voted #47 on VH1's 100 Greatest Videos.

Awards and accolades

The song is featured on The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll (the list has no particular ranking).

The song was chosen by Alice Cooper as one of his 8 "Desert Island Discs" on the UK radio program Desert Island Discs.

In popular culture

The song has been featured regularly on television and in films. It could for example be heard during the opening scene of NBC's Chuck episode 214 (Chuck Vs. The Best Friend) in 2009, in the pilot episode of TV series My Name Is Earl, the credits of Eric Bogosian's Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll and on an episode of Hindsight.

Moreover, the song was heavily used by NBC's Sunday Night Football when broadcasting a New England Patriots game, in light of their scandal of stealing signals from opponents. It was also featured in the 2004 video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on the fictional Alternative radio station Radio X, and could be heard in the films Gone in 60 Seconds and Cape Fear. It appeared in the soundtracks for the video games Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, Rock Band 3, Power Gig: Rise of the SixString, and The Darkness II.

The song is featured on The Prodigy's The Dirtchamber Sessions Volume One (1999).

The Angels Stadium of Anaheim plays a clip of "Been Caught Stealing" whenever the home team steals a base.

The title of the song is also parodied in the TISM song "Been Caught Wankin'" from the album www.tism.wanker.com.

Cover versions

It was covered by Richard Cheese on the album of Aperitif for Destruction and jacksoul on the album mySOUL, the former being a parody satirizing the barking dogs heard throughout the song.

There is an outtake version available on the 1997 rarities compilation Kettle Whistle.

Arcade Fire covered the song live in 2014.[7]
