Beanibazar (Bengali: বিয়ানিবাজার) is an Upazila of Sylhet District in the Division of Sylhet, Bangladesh. It is one of the biggest and famous upazila in the division of Sylhet.It has a good reputation for being the birthplace of many successful individuals. Beanibazar is located at 24.8250°N 92.1625°E. It has 27,089 households and a total area of 253.22 km². As of the 1991 Bangladesh census, Beanibazar had a population of 181,547, 49.5% of whom are male and 50.5% are female. Religions: Muslim 95.66%, Hindu 4.31%, and others 0.03%. 89,317 (or 49.2%) of the population are over the age of Eighteen. 85% are well educated.Beanibazar has an average literacy rate of 80.5% (7+ years) compared to the national average of 32.4%.[1]

History

The name "Beanibazar", is a variant of 'Bihani Bazaar' which means "morning market". Previously, Beanibazar was constituent part of Panchakhanda, which means "Five Parts". Beanibazar became a thana in 1938, and became an upazila in 1983.[2]

Beanibazar is located at 24°49′30″N 92°09′45″E / 24.8250°N 92.1625°E / 24.8250; 92.1625. It has 27,089 households and a total area of 253.22 km².

Beanibazar Cancer Hospital

Beanibazar Cancer hospital is located in Beanibazar, Sylhet. To provide information and raise public awareness of all matters relating to cancer and healthcare. We intend to serve not only Sylhet, the North East of Bangladesh but also Assam and north east India. We will create a specialist research centre and create a register of cancer patients in Bangladesh. [3]

There is very little specialist cancer care in Bangladesh. The only specialist provision is in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh and even this is very limited.

Beanibazar has an average literacy rate of 80.5% (7+ years) compared to the national average of 32.4%.[1] Religions: Muslim 95.66%, Hindu 4.31%, and others 0.03%.
