Bastard is the debut mixtape by American rapper Tyler, The Creator of Odd Future.[1] It was self-produced by Tyler, The Creator and it was first released on December 25, 2009.[4][5]

Background and content

This mixtape features Tyler speaking to a character named Dr. TC, who acts as Tyler's therapist and guidance counselor. During the title track, Dr. TC hints at Tyler's next album, Goblin, to be an additional session with him, stating that there will be three sessions. The songs "Odd Toddlers" and "Slow It Down" were previously released on The Odd Future Tape. A chopped and screwed version of the mixtape by Mike G also exists and was released online.[6]

On the one-year anniversary of the original release, the song "Session" was updated, replacing Brandun DeShay's verse with one by Mike G, after Tyler had a falling out with DeShay. The mixtape is now available on Odd Future's online music store with DeShay's vocals returning to the track. Tyler plans on re-releasing Bastard in a remastered physical form through their record label Odd Future Records.[7]

Reception

Bastard was ranked at number 32 on Pitchfork Media's list of the Top 50 Albums of 2010,[8] while the single "French!" was ranked at number 61 on Pitchfork Media's list of the Top 100 Tracks of 2010.[9]
