The Basketball Champions League is a proposed international basketball competition launched by FIBA Europe, to be contested by the European basketball clubs. The first tournament is due to commence in September 2016, with the aim to rival with Euroleague.
Creation and adoption
After the decission of the Euroleague to reduce its competition up to 16 teams, 11 of them with a 10-year franchise,[1] on 3 November 2015, FIBA confirmed the launching of a new European basketball club competition[2] with a qualification based in the sporting merit.[3]

The competition is expected to be played by 32 countries, divided in four groups of eight teams. 16 teams would qualify to the playoffs where four teams will join the Final Four.[4]
