Barundi is located in the Ludhiana district of the state of Punjab in India, about 25 km (16 mi) away from Ludhiana. With a population of more than 8,000, Barundi is one of the largest villages in Ludhiana.
Name
The name Barundi comes from the combination of two words "Bado" and "di", i.e. "Badondi" which means a place that belongs to "intellectual and influential people".
People
Many influential people have come from Barundi. For example, Baba Amar singh is known in all over the world for his contribution in education, Tejinder Sekhon who awarded youngest business man of the year in house of commons in UK July 2011, bhai sahib bhai jivan singh ji,involved in social and religious activities at an international level, have helped in development of this village.Another example is Sarvarinder Dhaliwal who is a lyricist. He has written famous songs such as Churi by Lakhwinder Wadali. Barundi is a host to one of the largest rural games fest in Punjab. Several people from this village have represented India in defence forces and various other government services. Many farming families from Barundi have members settled abroad in the USA, Australia, Canada and Europe who are continuously working for the uplift of this village. There is a primary school, senior secondary school and a women's college in this village. '
