Bariyarpur is a town and Village Development Committee in Bara District in the Narayani Zone of south-eastern Nepal. At the time of the 1991 Nepal census it had a population of 7,033 persons residing in 1122 individual households.[2]
Every five years, the Gadhimai festival is held in the temple of Bariyapur. The event involves the world's largest sacrifice of animals – including rats, buffaloes, pigs, goats, chicken and pigeons – with the goal of pleasing Gadhimai, the goddess of power.[3]
