Baraut is a small city and municipal board in Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh, India, just 55 kilometres (34 mi) from the national capital and falling within the National Capital Region. Previously, Baraut was within Meerut district until Baghpat district was split off from Meerut.
Geography
Baraut is located at 29°36′N 77°10′E / 29.6°N 77.16°E. It spread in the area of 10.36 square kilometers. Its average elevation is 231 m (758 feet). Baraut is served by two state highways, SH-57 & SH-82.
Demographics
According to the 2011 India census, urban Baraut has an estimated population of 150,992, of which 80,570 (53%) are male and 70,422 (47%) are female. Urban Baraut has an average literacy rate of 65%, which is lower than the national average of 74%, with 72% of males and 57% of females being literate. The census also showed that 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.[1]
