The National Cricket League Twenty 20 (often abbreviated as NCL T20 or নাতীয়নাল ক্রিচ্কেত লেগ ), was a Twenty20 cricket competition initiated by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). It includes 6 teams named by the divisions of Bangladesh. It has now been replaced by BPL.

The tournament is broadcast on Bangladeshi television channel ATN Bangla with all broadcasting rights to this television channel.The tournament has had much success in Bangladesh with the matches being watched in large amount of people in Bangladesh. The prize money was 7,000,000 and the runners up get 3,500,000. Also additional prizes included 50,000 for the fastest fifty and the most sixes.

History

First season

Rajshahi vs Kings of Khulna match at the Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium.

The inaugural season of the tournament started on 11 April 2010 and lasted for 9 days with 18 matches scheduled. The final was played in Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium in Dhaka, Mirpur. Every team played once at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan No 2 Ground and the rest of their match at the Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium in a round-robin system. The top four ranking sides progressed to the knockout stage of semi-finals followed by a final. In this case Dhaka Dynamites finished first of the tournament qualifying with Kings of Khulna, Rajshahi Rangers and Sultans of Sylhet all qualified. Rajshahi Rangers defeated Kings of Khulna in a last over thriller and emerged as the inaugural NCL T20 champions.

Franchises

In the NCL T20 six companies so to buy a team in the tournament. The companies would go in to a lottery of which they were to pick one of six of an iconic player from Bangladesh who is of an exceptional standard. Then 3 of 18 of players who are of the Bangladesh national cricket team. They would be categorised into a certain class, getting paid a certain amount of money. No player could more than 400,000 Taka.

The team could also add two international players to their team.

Rules

The six teams have to go it a lottery to pick players for their teams based on the players talent put into categories A+, A, B, C, D. Also the teams can buy international players but there is a limit to two players in a playing squad at a time.

The total spending cap for a franchisee in the first player auction was US $120,000. Under-22 players are to be remunerated with a minimum annual salary of US $1389 while highest for domestic is US $5556. The most expensive players in the NCL T20 to date are Shoaib Akhtar at US$18000.
