Bandu Samarasinghe, popularly known as Bandu (බන්දු සමරසිංහ) is an actor in Sri Lankan cinema.[1] Though he has primarily entered cinema as a supportve comedian for Freddie Silva in 1970s, Bandu has quickly progressed as one of Sri Lanka's most popular comedian actor in 2000s with his slapstick comedy roles. He has only acted in cinema industry and not in stage drama and teledrama. As in Kollywood cinema comedian duo Goundamani-Senthil, Sri Lanka has produced similar comedian duo Bandu-Tenny in numerous films across the era.[2][3]
Early life
Born on 22 November 1955, Bandu has never revealed his school life and childhood to any media. Due to this, his actual early life is somewhat mysterious and only his filming career and comedy acts are highlighted in media.
Career as an Actor
Started as early as 1973 at the age of 20 or so, Bandu started his cinema career with the Sadahatama Oba Mage. His lean body with slaptick comedies along the past comedian hero Freddie Silva, has forced Bandu to speed up his film career up to the highest level in 1980s. He has acted more than 85 Sri Lankan films up to 2015 and almost 95 percent of the films are comedy type and very few were drama type.[4][5]
As a director
Before his comedy partner, Tennyson Cooray moved to direction in 2013, Bandu started to showcase his talents in direction. His first direction film Left Right Sir released in 2004 and gained lots of attraction.[6][7]
