Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College (BBSBEC), Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab, India was established in 1993 by the Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Educational Trust formed under the patronage of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee with the approval of the Government of Punjab.

The college is approved by AICTE, New Delhi, and the Ministry of H.R.D., Government of India and is affiliated to Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar. BBSBEC was the first college to get its courses accredited by the National Board of Accreditation among the colleges affiliated to Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar.

The college started with BTech programs in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering with a strength of 30 students in each major. In 1997, the intake was increased to 60 students in each discipline. The intake was further increased to 90 students each in Computer Science and Engineering, and Electronics and Communication Engineering in 2000-2001. Two new programs - B.Tech. in Information Technology with an intake of 60 students and B.Tech in Electrical Engineering with a strength of 60 students - were introduced from the 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 sessions respectively. In the 2006-2007 session, the intake was increased to 120 students each in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication, and Mechanical Engineering.

Departments

Department of Computer Science and Engineering was established in the year 1993 with an intake of 30 students under the course of B.Tech in CSE. In 1996, the intake of students was increased to 60 and later in the year 2000 it has been increased to 90 and now it has been increased to 180. In year 2000 a new branch Information Technology was introduced with intake of 60 students. Currently in the course of B.Tech under IT has intake of 90 students. In addition to graduate courses, department is also running successfully post-graduate courses in computer science. In the year 2004, M.Tech (CSE) part time course was started with intake of 25 students. In 2010, M.Tech (E-Security), M.Tech (IT) part time, and MCA have been started with intake of 18, 25 and 60 students. The department right from the inception has the privilege of getting ample funds for setting up the laboratories and other infrastructure. There has been a rapid growth in the infrastructure of the department since 1993 and there has been no looking back. Today department can boast of one of the best computing facility in the region. The department of CSE & IT is ISO 9001 2000 certified and is accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and Institute of Engineers. The department has produced quality computer professionals. Department feels proud of its alumni employed in Public, Private and Educational sectors bringing good name to their alma mater. The whole team of CSE/IT/MCA Department is working with a sense of responsibility and dedication to excel and achieve success in this era of Computer Science.

The department of CSE/IT/MCA offers a comprehensive curriculum from introductory level courses to graduate seminars and projects focusing on critical research areas. Students find a unique set of opportunities available to study for the graduate as well as post-graduate programs. Apart from imparting conventional technical education and rich learning environment, emphasis is laid on co-curricular activities such as seminars, workshops, debates and quizzes to prepare students for highly competitive job market. The objective of the department is to provide knowledge of modern computing systems as well as sound theoretical background to meet evolving needs of students. Also the department aims at establishing strong relationship with the industry so as to bridge the gap between the academia and corporate sector. Also the department aims at cultivating qualities like leadership, teamwork, self confidence, good communication skills among its students. The department is committed to insure lifelong learning attitude among its students. The overall objective of the department is to make students understand their professional as well as ethical values.


Electronics & Communication Engineering Department was established in 1993 i.e. from the date of inception of the college, with an intake of 30 students. Within four years, the intake to this discipline grew to 60. Due to the excellent infrastructure, 30 more seats were sanctioned by AICTE in 2000 to increase the intake to 90. Now the present intake of the Department is 120.

The Department has well-established laboratories and is continuously growing. A number of Short Training programs, seminars and conferences have been conducted in the past. Department obtained ISO 9001-2000 certification in the year 2000. The department has been continuously growing since its establishment. At present the department has got infrastructure and facilities unmatched by any Engineering College under P.T.U.


The Electrical Engineering department has been established in 2002 and is active in teaching and research. The department has academic programmes with about 280 undergraduate and 30 Postgraduates. The department is equipped with the latest experimental and computational facilities for the development of the students. The major emphasis of the department is to impart technical training to encourage curiosity and innovativeness among the students and lay a foundation from where they can acquire quick learning ability and adaptively with the fast changing needs of the industry. The department has well-established laboratories with latest facilities. A number of Short Training programmes, Seminars and conferences have been conducted in the past. The department obtained ISO 9001-200 certification in the year 2000. The department has been continuously growing since its establishment. At present the department has got infrastructure and facilities unmatched by any Engineering College under P.T.U

Civil engineering is a broad field containing many engineering sub-fields, such as structure designing, transportation engineering, environmental engineering, geo-technical engineering, and construction engineering. Civil engineers design and supervise the construction of buildings, highways, railways, airports, tunnels, dams, bridges, as well as fluid transport systems.

The Department of Civil Engineering was established in the year 2011 with an intake of 60 students. The annual intake of this course has been increased to 120 for the batches starting from 2012. The objective of the department is to impart high quality education to the undergraduates, enabling them to succeed in positions in civil engineering profession.


Location

Fatehgarh Sahib has an ideal geographical location with the proximity to three important cities of the regions i.e. Chandigarh, Ludhiana and Patiala. The college is located at 5 kilometers from Sirhind Railway Station, 42 kilometers from Chandigarh, 65 kilometers form Ludhiana and 40 kilometers from Roopnagar and 35 kilometers from Patiala.The College is 250 km from New Delhi.

To Reach Fatehgarh Sahib by Bus By road Fatehgarh Sahib is 250 km from National Capital Delhi. The National Highway No.1 (G.T Road) passes through it at Sirhind and Mandi Gobindgarh situated in the district. All buses traversing the Delhi-Amritsar section halt here.

There are also regular bus services to Fatehgarh Sahib from Chandigarh, Patiala and Ropar.

To Reach Fatehgarh Sahib by Train The District has Sirhind Junction Railway Station on the Delhi-Amritsar section. This junction links the country with the Ropar and Nangal Dam. On the Sirhind-Nangal railway line, there is a railway station at Fatehgarh Sahib. Many Express and Super fast trains halt at Sirhind Railway station.

Fatehgarh Sahib has no direct Rail link to the State capital Chandigarh. But once the Ludhiana-Chandigarh railway line becomes fully operational Sirhind will have a direct railway link to Chandigarh as well.

For those wishing to visit Fatehgarh Sahib after landing at the Delhi Airport, the Indo-Canadian Bus service runs regular Delux bus services from the Airport to Amritsar and these buses halt at Sirhind and Mandi Gobindgarh.
