BT Consumer is the main retail division of United Kingdom telecommunications company BT Group and was established alongside BT Business following a two-way split from former division, BT Retail.[2][3] The division is responsible for selling consumer services including fixed-line, mobile, broadband and TV. It is the largest consumer fixed-line and broadband ISP in the UK.[4][5]
Products
BT Consumer is responsible for selling the following products to consumers. It buys many of these services from BT's other divisions: BT Wholesale, BT Global Services and Openreach.
BT Broadband
BT Broadband is a standard broadband service provided by BT with speeds of up to 17mb and is available in three 12-month contract packages: Broadband + Weekend Calls, Broadband Plus and Unlimited Broadband + Weekend Calls.[6]
BT Infinity
BT Infinity is a fibre-optic broadband service provided by BT that was launched in January 2010. Most homes will get FTTC service and have up to 40Mbit/s broadband, those with FTTP will get 100Mbit/s and a 20GB monthly usage allowance, with an unlimited package also offered. BT have since rolled out Infinity 2 offering up to 79Mbit/s download and 19 Mbit/s upload with an unlimited package. Infinity customers are allowed to upgrade to Infinity 2, but must restart their 18 Month contract.[7] As of 2 February 2016, BT Infinity is available in three 12-month contract packages with speeds of up to 38mb: BT Infinity 1 + Weekend Calls, BT Infinity 1 Plus and Unlimited BT Infinity 1 + Weekend Calls. BT also offers an Unlimited BT Infinity 2 + Evening & Weekend Calls 12-month contract package with speeds of up to 76mb. BT states their Infinity fibre broadband packages are up to five times faster than the UK's average standard broadband speed.[8]
BT Mobile
BT Mobile is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) in the United Kingdom provided by BT Consumer; a division of BT Group that was launched in March 2015.[9] It uses the EE network[10] via an MVNO agreement signed in March 2014[11] as well as using the spectrum BT won in the 2013's 4G auction.[12][13] EE is now owned by BT Group following a successful acquisition that was officially completed on 29 January 2016.[14][15] BT Mobile operates alongside BT Business Mobile which is provided by the BT Business division. BT Mobile currently offers SIM-only plans and anyone living in a BT Broadband home are eligible for a £5 monthly discount on all BT Mobile plans - each account holder can have up to five discounted plans but there's no limit to the number of people in a house that can take up the offer.[16][17]
