Aurantimonas coralicida is a species of bacteria, the type species of its genus. It cause white plague in Caribbean corals. It is Gram-negative and rod-shaped, with polar flagella, and adhere to form branching chains; its type strain being WP1T(=CIP 107386T =DSM 14790T).[1] It progressively destroys coral tissues and leaves an expanding area that appears bleached. It has been an epidemic in the Caribbean. An obligate aerobe, it obtains its nourishment chemoheterotrophically. It tests positive for oxidase and catalase, and contains carotenoid pigments, possibly to protect against solar radiation.
