Astrid Williamson

Astrid Williamson (born in 1971) is a Shetland born musician and songwriter.

In the 1990s, Williamson founded indie band Goya Dress which consisted of Williamson, Terry de Castro, and Simon Pearson. Goya Dress made one album Rooms which was produced by John Cale. Goya Dress dissolved in 1996, after which Willamson went on to release solo material sometimes using only her first name.^[1] Material was released on One Little Indian Records and her own record label, Incarnation Records.^[2] Pearson and de Castro went on to join Cinerama with David Gedge, frontman of The Wedding Present.

Williamson has worked in collaboration with various groups including Oskar^[3] and the experimental band, The Bilderberg Groop.^[4] She has also worked with Canadian Singer/Songwriter Tara Maclean and provided vocals for The Hope Blister and 1990s supergroup Electronic.

She is a classically trained pianist and graduate of the RSAMD (Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama).

In May 2010, Williamson toured with Brendan Perry to play keyboards and sing backing vocals on stage 2 of his Ark tour.

Williamson has also worked with Brian Eno/Jon Hopkins collaborator, guitarist and ambient expert Leo Abrahams. Abrahams produced her fifth solo album Pulse, released in August 2011.

Williamson played with Dead Can Dance on their 2012-13 world tour.
