Early Life and Career

Astra was born in Manhattan, New York and has been in the limelight since age 2. She started as a print work model. Eventually this exposure led her to television where she had extra roles on MTV and HBO.

She attended Molloy College where she graduated with a Bachelors in Communication with a minor in Spanish.

Her first job was with News 12 Long Island where she worked as the assignment editor and the associate producer from 1999 to 2001. She gathered news stories, obtained interviews for reporters and wrote copy for the anchors to read on air.[4]

Radio

Through her experiences with television, Astra became engrossed in the entertainment world. As her love for music and celebrity gossip grew she decided to move into radio. She landed her first on air gig at WXXP - Party 105.3, now WPTY Party 105. She worked middays serving the Long Island market, broadcasting to most of Suffolk County, New York. During her time at the station, she began interviewing various celebrities. Eventually she picked up afternoons at WXXP's sister station WLIR in order to explore various types of music. She ended up hosting all day parts while simultaneously heading the promotions department for the stations.

In 2005 she went back to New York City to WNEW - The New Mix 102.7, now known as WWFS. During her time here she worked as the Morning Show producer working with Michelle Visage and "Brooklyn's Own" Joe Causi. She was in charge of booking guests for the show as well as sitting in the studio each morning.

During her work in Manhattan, she connected with a voiceover company where she started doing voice work and parodies for radio stations throughout the tri-state area. Eventually she moved up to doing voiceovers for radio and television commercials broadcast nationwide.

For eight years she worked at 106.1 BLI. She started at the station in 2005 hosting the BLI Night Show as "Astra After Dark" for 5 years. In 2010 she moved to the midday slot where she remained until September 2014.[5] Astra prides herself on doing "out-of-the-box" style interviews to help fans get to know artists in a unique way. [6] She conducted a segment with One Direction called "Get Inside One Directions Pants" where she asked the band to empty their pockets.[7]

In 2012, Astra was named #15 out of 50 on the "Hottest Women in Radio" list by Popcrunch.com.[8] From 2013-2014 she also hosted "Power Mornings With Astra" from 6AM-12PM at Power 100.1 Athens #1 Hit Music station in Athens, Georgia and has done weekend shifts for Hits 97.3 in Miami.
