Associated Hebrew Schools of Toronto is a private traditional elementary (nursery to Grade 5) and middle school (Grade 6 to Grade 8) Jewish day school with two campuses in Toronto, Ontario,and one campus in Thornhill, Ontario. The three branches are; The Kamin Education Centre (Bet Hayeled – Gr. 5) located in Thornhill, The Posluns Education Centre (Bet Hayeled – Gr. 5) located in Toronto, and The Hurwich Education Centre (Danilack Middle School) also located in Toronto. Founded in 1907, it was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in 1922. With a total enrollment of about 2,000 students, it is the largest elementary and middle school for Jewish children in Toronto.

History

In 1907 The Simcoe Street Talmud Torah was founded as a part of the Toronto Hebrew Religious School. In 1925 The Brunswick Avenue Talmud Torah. In 1929 Associated has their first graduation ceremony. In 1941 Associated opens a preschool known as Bet Hayeled. In 1943 they open their first day school grade 1 class. In 1910 they rename the school to Associated Hebrew Schools of Toronto. In 1951 they have their first day school graduation. In 1952 they open the Neptune Branch of Associated. In 1972 the Hurwich Education Centre Opens. In 1982 the Danilack Middle School opens on Leslie. In 1995 Kamin Education Centre opens. In 1998 the Neptune campus is rebuilt and named the Posluns Education Centre. In 2003 the Hurwich Education Centre gets rebuilt and it merges with the Danilack Middle School. In 2007 Associated celebrated its centennial.[1]

Hurwich Education Centre

The Hurwich Education Centre was originally built in September 1971. It was originally an Elementary School. It is named after Nathan O. and Roey Hurwich. Later they renovated and named the inside of the building to the Danilack Middle School, named after Abba and Esther Danilack. Currently the school's principals are Brenda Stein Dzaldov and Rafi Kashman. The school's vice principals are Dafna Ross, Karen Sitnik, and Elizabeth Segal.[2]

Kamin Education Centre

The Kamin Education Centre was built in 1995. It is a Nursery and an Elementary School. It is named after Jack and Bushie Kamin. Currently the principal is Kathy Friedman. The vice principal is Linda Kitchler.[3]

Posluns Education Centre

The Posluns Education Centre is a Nursery and Elementary School. It is named after Louis and Leah Posluns. The building has been renovated. The current principals are Ora Shulman and Elana Shapiro Davidson.[4]

Associated Cedarvale

Associated announced that they will be opening a nursary campus in Beth Sholom Synagogue for their Mini Mench program. This campus will open for the school year of 2012-13.[5]
