Renal segmental hypoplasia

In nephrology, renal segmental hypoplasia, also Ask-Upmark kidney, is a kidney with a partially developed or atrophic renal cortex.[1]

Etiology

It is thought to be congenital or the consequence of vesicoureteral reflux.[2]

Significance

Ask-Upmark kidneys are a cause of secondary hypertension that can be curable.[2]
