Asian Private Banker is a Hong Kong-based publication. Founded in 2009, the magazine is exclusively focused on reporting on the private banking industry in Asia.
History
Asian Private Banker started in November 2009. Established in the wake of the global financial crisis, the publication was the first of its kind to produce editorial content primarily of interest to the private banking community in Asia.
Exclusive stories about the industry, while not always popular with the private banks concerned, quickly established Asian Private Banker’s newsletter and online content’s reputation for independence.
The region’s first event to focus on the private banking advisory community, “Asian Private Banker’s Investment Advisory Summit, 2010”, was held in Hong Kong in June of that year. Its success led to a sister event in Singapore in October, and the two events have been held annually ever since. Asian Private Banker was also the first to hold the Fund Selection Nexus in Hong Kong in 2012, followed by its sister event in Singapore – those events are also held annually. The first Asian Family Office event was held in 2011 and is now in its fifth year, having attracted keynote speakers such as Al Gore, the 45th Vice President of the United States of America.
Recognising the lack of reliable data provided on private banks operating in the region, Asian Private Banker released its first AUM League Table for the top 20 private banks in Asia in April 2014, quickly followed by its relationship manager (RM) Headcount League Table. These league tables are updated annually (in March) and are a result of exhaustive investigative journalism and data collation.
Asian Private Banker’s first Awards for Distinction were held in 2011 and are recognised as one of the industry’s most prestigious.[1] The Awards Gala Dinner, held in February each year, is a gathering of the most important figures in Asia’s private banking community.
Audience
The magazine and website are aimed at private bankers, C-suite management at private banks, and specialists in charge of product selection. A total of 80% of the readership are from private banks, followed by asset managers and investment bankers. The readership is based primarily in Hong Kong, closely followed by Singapore, with a smaller following in the UK, Switzerland, and the US.
Content
Digital
The website provides daily digital content and news articles, as well as an archive of previously published content. Asian Private Banker maintains an AUM table on the website, detailing the assets under management of the leading private banks in Asia, which is updated quarterly, and cited as a source by other industry-leading publications, such as Bloomberg,[2] and the Financial Times.[3]
A print magazine is published monthly. It comprises a lead features article on relevant and timely industry issues, regular columns and a compilation of the most popular articles from the website during that period.

The Asian Private Banker AUM and league tables are cited by industry sources as the most reliable of their kind,[4] and the magazine is now using its network within the industry to build its data offering.
