Asangi is a village in the southern state of Karnataka, India.[1][2] It is located in the Jamkhandi taluk of Bagalkot district in Karnataka.
Demographics
As of 2001 India census, Asangi had a population of 5344 with 2738 males and 2606 females.[1]
This village is surrounded by two streams one to the East and another to the West, a hill to the South and The River Krishna, the largest and longest in South India to the North.Flood waters in 2006 had caused a substantial loss to the standing crops. Agriculture is the main occupation of the villagers the most of them are agricultural labours. A very few families enjoy the land ownership. Sugarcane is the major cash crop followed by turmeric, maize, wheat, etc.
A well known Jain Mandir (Temple)built up with white and brown stones is a unique feature of this village. Idols of SHREE 1008 BHAGAWAN ADINATH THEERTHANKAR and SHREE 1008 BHAGAWAN MALLINATH THEERTHANKAR are worshiped. Late Shree Bhujaballi Naggappa Kuchanur and Shree Ramappa Appanna Kori, the legends of the village had sacrificed their whole life in the construction of the said Mandir as well as organizing Panchakalyan Pooja in 1984 and subsequent poojas. They left no stone unturned during their childhood even fed a section of people belonging to their society during the drought catastrophe in 1972. Many educated persons from the village have gone abroad and settled there. The philanthropic activities are continued and downtrodden communities are taken care by the upper class religions more specifically Jain Religion.
