The Arkansas Highway Patrol, officially known as the Highway Patrol Division, is the uniformed branch of the Arkansas State Police, and is responsible for general police traffic supervision, traffic, and criminal law enforcement on the rural highways of Arkansas. The AHP also assist with other incidents to include riots, prison disturbances, labor related disturbances, and providing security at public events.

Highway Patrol Division provides the following Services:

• Driver Licensing & Examination - Each highway patrol troop commander is responsible for establishing a regular schedule of driver’s license testing in each of the troop counties.^[2]
• Fatal Crash Summaries - Information obtained from an Arkansas State Police fatal crash summary represents only the initial findings by an investigating law enforcement officer. The summaries are not considered official reports of a highway crash investigation, but merely a summary of preliminary information presented to an investigating officer. The information contained in a summary may not represent the facts eventually placed on file in the official final report.^[3]

Organization

The Highway Patrol Division is divided into two regions both located at One State Police Plaza Dr., Little Rock, Arkansas

Eastern region with A, B, C, D, E & F Troops, is heade by Major J.R. Hankins,^[4]

Western region with G, H, I, J, K & L Troops, is headed by Major Les Braunns.^[4]

The Highway Patrol Division's Troops are as follows:

Troop A - Little Rock, Counties Served are Faulkner, Lonoke, Pulaski, Saline

Troop B - Newport, Arkansas, Counties Served are Cleburne, Independence, Jackson, Lawrence, Sharp, White

Troop C - Jonesboro, Arkansas, Counties Served are Clay, Craighead, Greene, Mississippi, Poinsett, Randolph

Troop D - Forrest City, Arkansas, Counties Served are Crittenden, Cross, Lee, Monroe, Phillips, Prairie, St. Francis, Woodruff

Troop E - Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Counties Served are Arkansas, Desha, Jefferson, Lincoln

Troop F - Warren, Arkansas, Counties Served are Ashley, Bradley, Calhoun, Chicot, Cleveland, Dallas, Drew, Ouachita, Union

Troop G - Hope, Arkansas, Counties Served are Columbia, Hempstead, Howard, Lafayette, Little River, Miller, Nevada, Sevier

Troop H - Fort Smith, Arkansas, Counties Served are Crawford, Franklin, Logan, Scott, Sebastian

Troop I - Harrison, Arkansas, Counties Served are Baxter, Boone, Fulton, Izard, Marion, Newton, Searcy, Stone

Troop J - Clarksville, Arkansas, Counties Served are Conway, Johnson, Perry, Pope, Van Buren, Yell

Troop K - Hot Springs, Arkansas, Counties Served are Clark, Garland, Grant, Hot Spring, Montgomery, Pike, Polk

Troop L - Springdale, Arkansas, Counties Served are Benton, Carroll, Madison, Washington

Other units

ASP Criminal Patrol Unit - A specialty team assigned to work the interstate highways and seek out wanted fugitives and smugglers who may be transporting stolen goods or narcotics.

Fallen officers

Since the establishment of the Arkansas State Police, 21 officers have died in the line of duty.^[5]
