The Architects' Journal is a weekly architectural magazine published in London by Emap.

History

The first edition was produced in 1896. Originally named The Builder's Journal and Architectural Record, from 1906 to 1910 it was known as The Builder's Journal and Architectural Engineer, and it then became The Architects and Builder's Journal from 1911 until 1919, at which point it was given its current name.[2]

Architects' Journal today

Commonly referred to by architects as the AJ, its articles concentrate mainly on British architecture, unlike its sister publication the Architectural Review, which has a worldwide focus. Each month the journal featured a supplement specializing in information on concrete and steel building work.[3]

The subjects written about include daily architectural news, studies of British buildings and detailed technical and practice features.

In 2011, the Architects' Journal launched the AJ Buildings Library,[4] a digital database containing over 30,000 drawings and photos of the most important architecture of Britain.

In June 2012, the magazine had a circulation of 6,714.[5] Three years later (June 2015), this figure had risen slightly to 6,817.[1]

In October 2015, Emap announced it was to stop producing print editions and that, over the next 12-18 months, all titles, including Architects' Journal, would become digital only.[6]
