Archduchess Maria Anna of Austria (1835–1840)

A lithograph of the Archduchess, by Josef Kriehuber

Archduchess Maria Anna of Austria (27 October 1835 5 February 1840) was the fourth child and only daughter of Archduke Franz Karl of Austria and his wife, Princess Sophie of Bavaria, daughter of Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria and his second wife Caroline of Baden. She was born as their fourth child and only daughter of her parents, but two other siblings were born after her death. She was born in Vienna on 27 October 1835 and seemed, at first, robust but she started showing signs of epilepsy during her first year. She was a sickly child and she died aged four of heavy epileptic seizures. Her mother adored her and was inconsolable.
