Apurvi Singh Chandela (born 4 January 1993) is an Indian shooter who competes in the 10 metre air rifle event. She won the gold medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow[1] and has expressed belief she can do the same at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Early life
She did her schooling from Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls' School,Jaipur.She studied Sociology honours from Jesus and Mary College, Delhi University.
Family
Apurvi was born to a Chandela Rajput[2][3] family in Jaipur.[4] Her father is Kuldeep Singh Chandela,[5] a hotelier, and mother is Bindu Rathore. Her family is from Udaipur.[6]
Career
In 2012, Chandela won the gold medal in the 10 metres air rifle event at the National shooting championships in New Delhi, her first year in the senior circuit.[7][8] In 2014, she won four medals at the Intershoot Championships at The Hague, that included two individual and two team medals.[9] In the same year, she won the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, having scored 206.7 points in final, in the process creating a new games record.[10]
Chandela qualified for the Women's 10 m air rifle at the 2016 Summer Olympics at the Olympics qualification round. In an interview, Chandela said that she believed she needed more sponsors before she could perform well at the Games.
