Aparna Gopinath is a Malayalam film actress and theatre artist who hails from Chennai. She debuted in the film ABCD: American-Born Confused Desi.
Early life
Aparna was born into a Malayali family which has settled in Chennai.[1] She was a theater artist and contemporary dancer before her acting debut. She has associated herself with ‘Koothu-P-Pattarai’, an avant-garde theatre movement of Chennai, and had also acted in renowned plays like ‘Six Characters in Search of an Author’, ‘Woyzeck’, ‘Moonshine’, ‘Sky Toffee’, ‘Sangadi Arinjo’ based on seven short stories of Vaikom Muhammad Basheer and several Shakespearean plays.[2][2][3][4][5][6]
She debuted in movies with Martin Prakkat's ABCD: American-Born Confused Desi which became a super hit. She played the role of Madhumitha, a college student and the love interest of Dulquer Salmaan in the movie. Her second movie as heroine was Asif Ali starrer Bicycle Thieves.
She also acted female lead in Mamas' Mannar Mathai Speaking 2 which is a sequel to 1995 cult comedy Mannar Mathai Speaking and Boban Samuel's Happy Journey starred Jayasurya.She also acts as a Junior journalist in director Venu's upcoming film Munnariyippu starred Mammootty. She has also acted in some ads and Aparna found time for furthering her interest in dance when she was acting. She scheduled her activities in such a way that she could get enough time to practice dance steps. To further her interest, she attended dance workshops in Chennai and Kochi. In these workshops, she even took classes for the aspiring actors in the Western style of dancing, especially the Ballroom and the Latin styles. Besides these activities, she was in the forefront of propagating the social dancing, which is a unique dance variety. In social dancing, one can have a variety of dance forms. They include hip-hop, disco, broadway, Jewish folk dance and Western contemporary dance.[7]
